Tucson Botanical Gardens Memorial Benches

Tucson Botanical Gardens (TBG) is a peaceful oasis in the heart of a bustling city, cherished by both visitors and residents. TBG offers donors the opportunity to dedicate a bench in memory of a loved one, creating a lasting tribute within the garden’s serene environment.

Nina Borgia-Aberle is honored to be trusted with the responsibility of celebrating a loved one’s life and legacy. She works closely with family members, who share stories and memories, allowing her to incorporate meaningful images that reflect their connection to nature. The ceramic tile memorial benches are crafted using a glazing method called maiolica, similar to the Talavera style found in Mexico. In this process, ceramic stains are painted over a tin-based glaze before the tiles are fired, resulting in beautifully vibrant colors.
